When installing from ports, the makefile has a list of all apps that the port being built has a dependency on. If those apps aren't installed, it tries to install them via the ports collection. If it can't find the version of the app it's looking for in the ports, it fails.
Also what does checksum mismatch mean
The checksum is an md5 hash of the file. If the md5 hash of the actual file doesn't match what is expected, then the file is considered corrupted.
