I heard that writing to ntfs volumes its still problematic. So what now?

Hello,
I want to be able to transfer files bwtween my ubuntu reiserfs partitions to xp's ntfs partitions. Read and aslo write support as well.
I must be able to do this both when i work on xp and also when i work on linux.

Your windows partition will not be able to read any linux filesystem. Your best bet is to have a FAT32 partition lying around- you can access it with both OS's.
Note that Linux can _read_ a NTFS partion- I believe that the neccassary kernel hacks can be downloaded from sourceforge. But writing is dangerous.

I think you should use an intermediary fat32 or ext2 partition

I don't think that any version of Windows can read ext2.

My main reason are stability and security.
WinXP does seem pretty stable, though. So that leaves security. But I'm not the one to sell you on that point- just google "linux security" or something similar.
Also, many people would disagree with me on this point, but I find maintaining my linux box is easier than maintaining the wife's WIndows XP box. One command line command and the system is updated. One command line command and programs are downloaded and installed. The 'man' files are very informative, not the baby "click here click here" help files on Windows. And I never wonder where anything is on my system. I know where Kontact stores it's info (where does outlook store info?) and I know where my playlists are (where does Windows Media Player store playlists?)- this makes backups (and other things) much easier.
And the wife can use my KDE desktop just like she uses the Windows desktop. If I didn't tell her it was linux, she's never know. It is different from her WinXP desktop, but it is operated in the same fashion (point and click, menus, taskbar, dragging and dropping,...).
The only thing missing from the linux machine is a good photo-managment program. On the winbox we use BrilliantPhoto. We need it's support of IPTC matadata in pictures. If you can live without that, than you should have no problems with linux.

You can get drivers for it.  For example, http://www.fs-driver.org/  or http://ext2fsd.sourceforge.net/ ...

Which distro would you advise me to install?
