I have tried using Adobe Photoshop CS3 using the magic wand and background extractor tool. Is there a more useful way or better program for this. Ideally i need to produce a crisp looking image in less than 10 mins. Any ideas??

Hi all,
I am creating an ecommerce site and have found the hardest process i have encountered so far is removing images from their background. How do other people manage this to make it so professional looking? I just end up with a product with wavy or jagged edges that doesn't look very professional.

Magic wand is not very precise when you want to remove the background.
Here are some tips and techniques: http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/blremovebackg.htm

Thanks for the links.
Is there a general method that people use? I'm not a graphic designer and don't want to spend hours cutting out a simple image. Is photoshop the only program for this?
Also has anyone had experince in this before? Which method did you use? And do you have a website with examples of the work you have produced?

First if you need to do it quick then select background with magic wand, change the tolerance to try and get all the background but non of the main image, select invert which will put marching ants around the main image, now select modify and use contract/extract which will bring the ants in or out. Cut that out and place onto a new layer, right click the layer and mess about with the blending options.
or use the pen tool but its a tricky tool to use and could take a long time if your not use to using it.

Yeah, I use the pen tool, which can be a bit arduous if you're not used to it, but once you get the hang of it provides professional results.
The quick mask tool is useful too, and a little easier to get the hang of.

I think you can use the colour range tool as well, its for selecting a colour in the image as the tools name suggests.
I think its been put there for when your trying to select the chroma colour, those green chroma screens but thats just what ive heard so i could be wrong.
