Hi,
I am looking to have someone build me a PHP/mySQL website.  Where is the best place to find someone to work with?  Elance?  Forums?  Professional firms?
Furthermore, I believe my idea is a good one (as "we" all do) - - - would it be possible to collaborate with someone....ie...they do the development, I fund the marketing, design assistance, etc.... with a goal of turning out a profitable website that is co-owned?
Either or, what's the best way to find someone?

Most developers/designers will not work for free on the promise of owning something at the end. There is simply too much risk involved for the amount of work that would go into it. As a developer, why would I invest my time into something that may or may not turn out in my favor?

The best chance you've got of getting someone to work for equity would be to find less experienced developers. This may influence the time taken to complete you're work however.
Before you approach someone i suggest preparing some documents for them to read over showing them you're plans and estimates for the website.
