I agree with kenmaster, what you want is to catch the attention of someone who has probably seen dozens of pages before...
and he probably will have another 10 million hits to go...
what does he see on your page?
- no contrasting colors,
- no focus point (like an eye catching image, animation etc),
- to much to read (oh man we humans invented it but are actually to lazy to do it  )
- no clear point of navigation...
if you just wanted to present data for the data this would be a good set up... but you're tring to get the attention of your visitors,
they want to know what to expect and they don't want to have to spent any effort on that... so...
1. try to use more contrast, making your banner to catch the eye would make a big difference
2. guess it will be mostly males coming in to have a look, so seduce them ... they want women, give them women... (there is a distinct difference between showing and offering, but don't over do it, my advice would be a woman with a longing look, or a man and a woman at an intimate moment like restaurant dinner, walk in the park, you know, the stuff that people are looking for and the reason they come to your site... know what they want and show it to them!!!)
3. go and visit some of your future competitors, look what they made,
4. me I love simple but to the point flash animations, the possibilities are endless and nowadays there are mil of proggies around that will help you to make fantastic banners, slideshows, and animations
5. try to use more extravagantly fonts, guess using Fireworks will help you to do some wonderful stuff and you don't need to study Adobe CS first 
6. Seems you gonna add a service sooner or later... well my friend, THAT SHOULD BE BIG NEWS.... send it out to your viewers... COME BACK SOON BECAUSE WE GONNA PROVIDE YOU WITH EVEN MORE AND BETTER ... if you catch my drift...
guess point 3 will be a good starter, btw. like your idea, might work...
ok sorry I've got you to read all this horrible stuff on your website, guess a good idea like yours deserves a good website... ok good luck and hope it makes some sense since English is not my native language and sometimes it's hard to express exactly what I mean...
